Hurricane Season Tip: Be Prepared with Solar Battery Storage

Dr. Phil Klotzbach and his team at Colorado State University have released their preseason forecast – 19 named storms, 9 hurricanes, and 4 major hurricanes in 2022!

The research team submitted its forecast for the hurricane season in 2022 April. Unfortunately, after two consecutive years of devastating hurricanes, all measures of the number of storms this year show that the hurricane season in 2022 is still very active, marking the seventh consecutive active hurricane season.

Of the 19 named storms, experts predict, at least three hurricanes are expected to reach Category 3 winds or higher! That means 2022 will be an above-average year for severe Atlantic storms.

With many storms set to make landfall in the U.S., now is the time to prepare for a hurricane, especially if you live in an area that is at risk of long-term storm-related power outages. Why not prepare an energy storage battery for your home in advance as an emergency power source for a power outage?

Why equip your home with solar energy storage battery?

Hurricanes are unpredictable, inevitable and devastating. When a hurricane hits, there are always power outages, as the storm can disrupt your local grid and cause the power to fail. If your home is equipped with energy storage batteries at this time, you don’t have to worry about the food or medicine stored in the refrigerator going bad due to a power outage, and you can keep your home warm during a power outage in winter. There’s also no need to eat non-perishable biscuits, canned meats, and other emergency foods all the time because your home has backup power that allows you to cook on the stovetop.

In general, equipping your home with energy storage batteries can provide more than just emergency power for your home in the event of a hurricane. While ensuring the daily electricity demand, ensure that the communication equipment has sufficient power, so that you can contact the rescue team at any time. Alternatively, you can achieve complete off-grid independence by equipping your home with a full-scale solar power system.

What should you pay attention to when choosing energy storage battery for your home?

With about a month to go until the 2022 hurricane season begins, now is the perfect time to prepare. Not only should you build an emergency preparedness kit, but you can ensure a reliable power supply by investing in residential solar equipment! When choosing a reliable backup power source, keep the following in mind:

  • The stored power can meet your power needs during a power outage
  • If the energy storage battery is placed outdoors, be sure to choose a brand with a high waterproof level to ensure safety.

Regardless of the region you live in, you should check with your installer and seller about battery-related warranty information and usage considerations before ordering an energy storage battery.

After the hurricane

After a hurricane, you should double-check your solar installation as soon as possible. If there is any damage to the energy storage device or the battery is not functioning properly, please take a photo of the damaged area from a safe distance and send it to your solar service provider who will send a professional to check the system for you. And then based on the damage the degree determines whether to replace or repair the battery for you.

Make sure not to attempt to repair the energy storage device yourself, and to do so from a safe distance when inspecting the device. Be careful not to touch loose panels or wires. Because they may still be powered on, which is dangerous!

If you’re anxiously preparing for hurricane season, now is the time to get your GoKWh project started before the storm hits.
